Treatment for a cleft lip can begin as early as three months with cleft palate repairs being performed as early as nine months. The first step is a complete physical exam to address any other health issues that may cause complications. Children with a cleft palate often have difficulty sucking. Dr. Bartlett will offer feeding advice to ensure the child is getting proper nourishment until the deformity can be corrected. In some cases, children will need additional procedures later in life.
