DURING YOUR PLASTIC SURGERY CONSULT

Dr. Bartlett understands that selecting a plastic surgeon is an important medical decision. During your confidential, private consultation in his Boston-area office, Dr. Bartlett will ask about your personal goals and recommend the best program of treatment to ensure optimal results.

When you select Dr. Bartlett as your plastic surgeon, you can be assured that your health and well-being are a priority.  If there are alternative procedures or physicians that better suit your needs, Dr. Bartlett will make an appropriate referral.

When you call Dr. Bartlett’s office, you will speak with his front desk administrative assistant who will arrange your consultation within 4 weeks. You will be registered within the practice and asked to complete health forms and questionnaires within your unique Patient Portal which allows Dr. Bartlett to review your medical history before your in-person consultation.

On the day of your consultation, you will be greeted by the front desk administrative assistant. One of our nurses will lead you to a patient room where they will begin your office visit. Dr. Bartlett will meet with you and develop a treatment plan suitable for your needs. Photographs are often taken that may be sent to the insurance company or to monitor progress. Photographs are never used for social media purposes, shared with third parties or used for educational purposes or research without your explicit consent.

Once you have decided to proceed with surgery, the Surgical Coordinator will contact you to arrange the date and time of your procedure. This surgery may be arranged within the office AAAASF certified operative room or within one of the local affiliated hospitals within Boston, depending on your needs.

Prior to your surgical procedure

Dr. Bartlett will give you instructions to prepare for your procedure. He will customize your pre-op and post-op instructions based on your medical evaluation. You will likely be asked to arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home after the surgery and to help out during initial recovery. You may also be asked to stop or change your current medications as part of the preparation. This is because certain medications may result in increased bleeding and must be avoided. Smoking is prohibited for six weeks before and after surgery. Smokers have a higher incidence of unfavorable scarring.

Within one week of your surgical procedure, you will be contacted by one of Dr. Bartlett’s nurses to review details of your upcoming procedure, provide a reminder of when to stop certain medications, and answer any questions you may have.

Withing 24 hours of your procedure, you will be contacted by one of our anesthesiologists who will review their anesthetic plan for your surgery. Dr. Bartlett’s AAASF Certified operative room is equipped for general anesthesia, sedation and local anesthesia. You will be reminded when to stop eating food and drinking before your surgery. You will meet with the anesthesiologist in-person on the morning of your surgery.

Day of Surgery

You will be asked to arrive 1-2 hours before your surgery begins and will meet with our exemplary team of nurses, anesthesiologists and, of course, Dr. Bartlett. After your procedure is completed, you will remain in the recovery area for 1-2 hours before being discharged to your home accompanied by a friend or family member.

Before your procedure, you will be provided with extensive information on how to care for yourself after surgery. Prescription medications will be conveniently sent to your pharmacy and your post-operative appointment will be arranged ahead of time. On the day of surgery, the focus is centered on the patient and their recovery. Dr. Bartlett’s team and staff work hard to provide all details ahead of time so you are well prepared prior to your procedure.
