From scheduling the initial consultation, to the day of my operation, Dr. Bartlett and his team — including the office staff and staff at Longwood Plastic Surgery — were wonderful to work with: they were so helpful, responsive, and kind, and made the whole process easy and stress-free, which I especially appreciated as this was my first major surgery. Dr. Bartlett himself is very knowledgeable and knows how to make his patients feel comfortable, seen, and heard. His work is excellent; my recovery was easy (something I’d also heard from others who had surgery with him), and I’m so pleased with the results. As of writing this, I’m admittedly only a couple of months post-op, and while I know I won’t see the full extent of my results until later, I’m looking forward to if everything looks and feels this good now. From communicating with reception, to being able to text a number with any questions pre or post-operation, to the surgery itself and full experience surrounding it- everything went so terrifically that it's hard to pinpoint what the best part of the experience was. Dr. Bartlett is my hero, and I mean that in every sense of the word. I came in for a breast reduction and lift consultation after having pretty severe back pain to the point I was hunching, hiding and deteriorating my posture. I did not like my breasts aesthetically and also disliked that their denseness caused me neck and back pain. This had been going on for years, and frankly I just assumed I always needed to do more yoga, go to a chiropractor, or acupuncture. Nothing worked, no matter what I tried, and I resorted to this procedure but I am so glad that I went forward with it because it has changed my life. Dr. Bartlett told me that he could help me and used clear and concise anatomical explanations so that I understood what changes I could expect to my body. He also was helpful with easing some of my anxieties around the procedure and concerns regarding recovery. I also struggled a bit with other consultations as Dr. Bartlett was my third consultation, but in hindsight he should've been the first. Nurses Sarah and Michelle were terrific, I particularly liked communicating with Sarah because I could crack jokes with her and she would laugh with me to make the experience especially on the day of my operation way lighter and easier on my mind. Marina was also amazing, always very diligent in taking down any questions I had especially during recovery, often times grabbing an answer for me from one of the nurses on the spot. Courtney and Katie would also write very thorough emails and included helpful instructions in the procedure coordination process. As for the procedure itself, everyone in the practice made me feel as though I was the only one in the building and I even got a heated blanket and leg massage along with some jokes from the anesthesiologist to fall asleep to. The results I can't say enough about. I am truly obsessed, I've been able to wear things I never could wear before, I am more confident and walk with my back straighter and more upright now with some of the weight removed. Lastly, I am very pleased that only 3 months out now I have been continuously getting the nerve sensation back in my breasts and areolas. That I wasn't confident would ever "feel the same" but I must say it's pretty close, and I know there is more healing to go in that regard. Suffice it to say I am a very happy patient and would tell everyone and their mother to get a breast reduction or lift done here without a second thought! After doing all of my research on top surgery and different surgeons in the area that could perform my selected surgery, I knew Doctor Bartlett and his team were my preferred option that I could trust and be in good hands with. The work that they do from the gallery to the reviews were all outstanding. From the beginning starting with the phone calls that I made to the office, the team was so pleasant to work with. They were always so nice and courteous on the phone. They answered every question, and were very prompt with their answers if they said they would get back to you. If they could not reach you, they would always contact via email. When it was time for my consult, the front desk team was very nice, and the nurses came right on time. There was never any delay in the time waiting. The nurses were very professional and very friendly. When it came time to meeting Doctor Bartlett, he was super kind and very knowledgable. He knew exactly what we were going to do for surgery and even explained it to me as if I were to have never done my research. He wanted to make sure that I knew exactly what was going to happen and assured me that I was in very good hands. I felt very comfortable with Doctor Bartlett and his team. Awaiting surgery the team of nurses and receptionists kept in very good contact with me and never made me feel forgotten. They gave me plenty of paperwork regarding DOs and DONTs and made sure things were very clear on instructions before surgery. Nothing was ever a question. If I were to have a question, they made it very clear that I can always reach out and ask. Whenever I did have a question they were always very thorough in their explanation and never made me feel belittled or like a nuisance. When it came time for surgery, I went to another facility called Longwood Plastic Surgery where Doctor Bartlett also performs his surgeries. The staff there were also very nice, and the facility was also very clean and professional. Before surgery, I met with the nurses, anesthesiologist and Doctor Bartlett one last time. They all asked me series of questions which made me feel good and that they were doing a very thorough job. Doctor Bartlett went over the surgery with me one last time which made me feel comfortable and safe. Going into surgery, the team of nurses were very personable with me and made me feel comfortable which I valued because it was a very nerve racking yet exciting experience. After surgery, the nurse woke me up and went over how to properly drain my JP drains. This was told to me before, but I greatly appreciated a hands-on demonstration right in front of me while it was applicable. They got me out of the facility pretty quickly, but that was not a problem because they made sure that I felt comfortable enough to leave and made sure everything was good to go. It was not like they rushed me out of there. The day after surgery I got a phone call making sure that everything was going okay and to see if I had any questions which I greatly appreciated. It shows the care that Doctor Bartlett and his team put into their patients. My follow up appointment was not set up yet because I had to make sure my drainage was low enough for the drains to come out. I called every day that I was supposed to, and as annoying as I felt calling every day, it never seemed like a bother on the other end of the line which was nice. It was finally time to get my drains out. I head up to the office to meet with the nurse, so she can take my drains out and take a look at how everything is healing. Nurse Michelle was amazing! She took her time and told me everything she was doing along the way. She was very knowledgable, personable, and caring. She really cares about her job and patients and it shows. Throughout this first visit, she answered any questions I had and took the time to go into detail. I never felt rushed or like a bother. She conversed with my partner and I and really put a smile on both of our faces with how kind and friendly she was. A few days after I got my drains out, I noticed that I had fluid build up on the left side of my chest that Nurse Michelle had warned me about that may happen. I called right away, and they had me send a picture of it. They got me in as soon as possible which I really appreciated because it caused me to worry a little bit. On this visit, I had Nurse Michelle again, and she was still great. She walked me through everything that we were going to do which was draining the fluid. Again, she took the time to communicate with my partner and I and show us how caring and friendly she was. On my last visit with Nurse Michelle, she took the bandages off of my chest, and it was just another great experience that I had with this team of people. I can not stress how amazing of an experience that I have had so far. I can not wait to come back for my three month post op appointment, but I know it will be a bittersweet experience because I am going to have to say bye. As a gender nonconforming person, I wasn't sure what to expect when visiting a plastic surgeon for top surgery. From my very first interactions with office administrations and nurses, I could tell I had come to the right place and would be cared for, respected, and served well. Dr. Bartlett is clearly a perfectionist (in the best of ways!) -- when describing the procedure, he made it clear that he would go above and beyond industry standard to make sure my surgery and recovery would be the very best experience. Dr. Bartlett came recommended by three friends in the medical field, one from a breast reduction. The office is a comfortably intimate environment, the staff are bubbly yet professional. I found Dr. Bartlett to be efficient yet approachable and aesthetically precise with a holistic view. The proportion is perfect and lines are clean, even, minimal. The one uncomfortable part of the surgery experience was laying in the operating room before receiving anesthesia, but this is inevitable given the limited space of private practice. I did not need drains and did not have much bleeding or leakage. I had two small cysts that ruptured independently. The pain was not acute after the first two weeks. After four months I felt comfortable wearing only a light sports bra—less support than pre-operation! I have been diligently using the silicone strips (two packs) and various topical scar treatments, so already parts have faded to white. Having a breast reduction transformed my experience of my body. I feel fully confident about my shape and appearance, which I did not expect. Everyone said that about him going in so I had high expectations and he and his team have exceeded them. I came into surgery (bilateral double mastectomy with free nipple grafts) with a DDD+/E chest, 17 years of binding damage, and an extreme amount of inelastic, excess skin after a 150LB weight loss and I cannot believe the results I am seeing at only 1 week post-op. The past week has been a near euphoric experience. His staff does a great job of helping you get prepared for surgery and knowing what to expect, the nurses and anesthesiologist the worked with me were so kind and trans knowledgeable, and I woke up from surgery in NO PAIN. I don't understand how it is possible, but I have had recoveries from a sprained ankle that were worse then the recovery from this surgery. In general, this experience was so much better then I dared to imagine it could be. From the very beginning Dr. Bartlett and his staff have been caring and responsive to my questions and concerns. You can tell they have been doing this for a long time and that they are experts at it. I am non-binary and have history with panic in medical situations and there was no point in this process that I felt uncomfortable on either front. I also cannot say enough about his contouring and the placement of my nipples and scars. It finally feels like I am looking at the chest I was supposed to have all along and I could tell from my consult with him that he could see what fit my body right from the beginning. My friend had the same surgery with him a few months ago and their scars and nipples look completely different from mine, but perfect for their body and build. Dr. Bartlett is a perfectionist like everyone says, but I think it is more accurate to call him an artist. He has a real passion and joy for his craft and it shows up in so many intangible ways in the results his patients get. It also doesn't hurt that he is a nice guy and good communicator. I got double incision top surgery with Dr. Bartlett not too long ago and it went really well and the results were great. The incisions were not that big at all and they healed really well. The distribution of fat could be worked on a bit, I had a small area of my chest that was a bit bigger and still had a bit of fat compared to the other side of my chest but it's barely noticeable and I understand that, in my certain scenario with having one breast bigger than the other, it can be hard to work with what your given sometimes. I don't exactly know how surgery works but in my experience, I didn't have any kind of nausea or even pain after the surgery, though I know this can vary from patient to patient. The nipple graphing was amazingly done. I was going into this with not much confidence in that area, but he did really well. The nipples are well sized and positioned perfectly. I also had a surgery where I didn't need drains which was really nice to not have to worry about. I met Dr. Bartlett a couple of times and from my experience, he is a really good guy. He explains everything well and his team was very warm to me when I came in for surgery. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who is getting this kind of surgery. When I went for PreOp at the hospital, at least 6 nurses told me that he was the only plastic surgeon that they trusted to work on them. They summed him up best when they said: He is a perfectionist in all the right ways! My breasts are everything I hoped. He kept my curves without all the painful weight. My new C/D shape is totally natural with scars (anchor) expertly placed in a way that is barely noticeable. Also, my healing time was very minimal compared to others I know who had this procedure, which I understand has everything to do with your surgeon. I made the decision to have breast reduction surgery this year after many years of shoulder, neck and back pain. I was referred to Dr. Bartlett by my PCP and waited almost 6 months to make the appointment. I was very hesitant about undergoing the procedure as I have never had an elective surgical experience. Did I make a mistake! If I had it all to do again, I would have had this done years ago by Dr. Bartlett. Every step of the way has been amazing. I have had the pleasure of dealing with Olivia, Gabby, Sarah and Dr. Bartlett. The have been extremely professional and they have all made me feel very comfortable and very much at ease. During the initial consultation I had my "before" pictures taken and Dr. Bartlett spent a considerable amount of time answering all of my questions. Within one week's time I received the news that I was approved for the surgery and it was scheduled. I received two information packets from Gabby that contained every bit of information that I could need before and after the surgery. There were directions to the surgical site, Breast Reduction instructions for the days prior to the surgery, the day of the surgery and the days after the surgery. Also included was information to assist with the purchase of the post-surgical bras, prescriptions and a narcotic log. All aspects of preparing for a successful surgical intervention were covered. The day before the surgery I received a call from the office asking if there were any last minute questions or concerns. Truly put my mind at ease. The day of the surgery I was very pleased with all members of the surgical team; the nurses in pre-op/post-op, the anesthesiology team, and of course, Dr. Bartlett and his assistant. I had my first follow up appointment 7 days after the surgery with Sarah. She examined the incisions and was available to answer any and all of my questions. Today I had my second follow up appointment. The remaining steri strips were removed by Sarah and I was given Silicone sheeting to begin in about two weeks. Dr. Bartlett examined me as well and I have been told that I may slowly begin resuming regular activities in two weeks. I do not have another appointment for 3 months. If you are wondering if this surgery is for you, I say wait no longer and call and make an appointment with this wonderful group of professionals! Boston, MA I'm a trans man I've known for years but I finally started transitioning in June of 2014 and started taking testosterone in November '14. It was a rocky start with the hormones because I got allergic to the patch, anyways, about 9 months into hrt I started looking into surgery to remove my breast, I did a bunch of research and went on multiple consultations, got turned down. But in the end I went with whom I knew I wanted to go with from the beginning, dr. Richard Barttlet, from all the research that I've done him and dr. Daniel Medalie would've been the only other Doctor I would've gone to. I always knew that I didn't want big scars so that was a big factor in deciding my surgeon. The reasons it took me some couple of consultations with different surgeons was that distance and insurance coverage were two big things, and the most defining one , the after results, not just from his website but from other FTM guys as well. The quote he gave me at first was honestly not that higher than what I got for a double incision mastectomy in Colorado and my insurance covered about 40% of my surgery so I ended up paying 6000 for surgery and me and my wife stayed at an air B&B and payed like 900 for 12 days that we stayed in Boston for my recovery. Dr. B was great and surgery went really good he took almost 5 hours because he wanted everything to be looking good. And everything went great I did throw up a bunch when the anesthesia was wearing off. As you can see in the pictures I have some residual skin laxity, mostly on mi left side and preop it was larger than my right side. I was told and I'm confident that it will resolve either all or most of it by itself and in the 11 weeks post surgery I have seen huge improvement. The doc also told me that if I grow my chest muscles, which I plan on doing anyways to get a better contour, the skin with get more taut. I'm also using an scar oil that has been working great and a cream that I bought at the local apothecary. I'm was wondering if there's anything else I can use to help with the skin laxity. A lot of the reviews really helped me deciding and for anyone being on the verge like this I would definitely say to go the distance because it can be the best decision of your lives, I know it was for me. Everyone was exceptionally patient and friendly in their office, and were extremely accommodating to any and all of the obstacles that got in the way. She made me feel comfortable and I really appreciated her being there through the process and all of my appointments after.Krm08December 9, 2013Revision Rhinoplasty in Boston - Brookline, MA I had a second rhinoplasty 18 years ago to fix a poly beak deformity caused by a car accident and while it was fine I had what looked like scar tissue on one side of my nostril that bothered me. I also was left with a slight bump on the middle of my nose which was not there before I was in a car accident. Over the years my septum has also deviated significantly. I decided to fix the breathing and cosmetic issues with my nose and am so glad I did. I am one week post -op and just had my cast taken off today - I am thrilled!!! I breathe so much better than before the surgery and this will only improve as the swelling goes down. The ugly scar tissue on the side is gone and my nose is beautiful!!!!!Lon CNovember 20, 2013I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Bartlett and the staff at his practice in Brookline. I am a 31 transgender man who sought top surgery (keyhole, pre-T) in the spring of last year (2012). Prior to deciding on Dr. B, I researched all of my other options--mostly financially because I really had to scrape the money together to make the surgery happen--just remember, this decision is LIFE CHANGING. In weighing out my options to travel to FL or CA vs staying local (I'm from Maine), the prices were comparable (especially when other surgeons were quoting $6500, but then neglecting to account for an $1800 anesthesiology fee (make sure you know ALL of the costs). When I first heard of Dr. B, I could only find one youtube video and no other strong references via transbucket or other online information sites for FTMs. Although the informational phone session proved encouraging, I visited his website and felt like maybe Dr. B was out of touch with the trans community, or not actually advertising for folks like myself. My partner reminded me that he is a cosmetics/plastics surgeon and that his website caters to a different audience. The office itself is immaculate and professional. Staff was exceptional; they asked all the right questions, and followed through respectfully. I thought maybe my own experience had been abnormally good, but after watching my friend get the very same treatment, have a different procedure for the same issue and have a friggen AMAZING result (we're hoping to do a vlog soon to show/discuss it), AND have it all happen Right Here In Boston, I'm blown away. Remember, safety and comfort is everything; even if a less-skilled surgeon makes a trans person feel comfortable and safe, the chance of that person seeking service from them is still pretty good. Dr. Bartlett is not only a highly skilled artist, but he and his staff create a safe experience.
