Cleft lip reconstruction is usually performed within two to three months of birth. However, there is a preferred “rule of 10s” where the child should be at least 10 weeks of age, weigh 10 pounds and have at least 10g of hemoglobin.
Cleft lip reconstruction is an important procedure for preventing complications such as speech and hearing impediments that are often associated with cleft lip. Consult with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Richard A. Bartlett for more information about cleft lip reconstruction.
