To Our Valued Patients:
The Covid-19 virus continues to affect a significant number of people in the Northeast, and although the numbers may be plateauing, there is still a significant burden on the healthcare system. Hopefully, the curve will bend down and allow us to carefully begin elective surgery and treatments in the near future. For the time being, state and hospital leadership have delayed elective procedures until June. It is important to realize that there is a backlog of many “elective” procedures that are nonetheless time sensitive, such as cancer treatment and surgery to relieve pain and suffering. The hospital community is now developing a triage system to address the most acute needs first when elective surgery resumes. Unfortunately, we are not yet able to begin rescheduling postponed surgeries or cases which had not been scheduled before the outbreak.
In the meantime, all members of our staff have been busy changing protocols for the office and operating room with your safety in mind. These efforts include pre-treatment and pre-operative screening for symptoms of Covid-19, as well as pre-operative testing. Our office is being redesigned to minimize patient traffic, and we will continue to disinfect all contact surfaces between patient visits. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be used by staff and provided to all patients. Virtual visits will be utilized when possible, but in-person visits will continue as needed. We are in the process of codifying all changes in a Covid-19 Procedures Manual, and will be sharing that information with you in future communications. We hope to restart soon, and pledge to do so in the safest way possible.
